Scientific societies do important work for science
Scientific societies are a key part of the Finnish scientific community. They:
- publish peer-reviewed research
- maintain domestic scientific publications and develop scientific vocabulary
- share researched information outside the scientific community
- organise scientific events and discussions
- build networks of researchers and support the development of disciplines.
Most of the societies are based on voluntary work and often have limited financial resources. We support the continuity of their operation with grants and acknowledge long-term work for the benefit of science.
Our grants support the preconditions for doing science
We award grants to promote science and the scientific community. The grants support scientific publication, international cooperation and the organisation of scientific conferences and seminars, for example. The grant pages contain up-to-date information on the different forms of grants, their target groups, application periods and application criteria.
Recognition of outstanding achievements through awards
With awards and other recognitions, we highlight outstanding achievements for science and the scientific community. At the same time, we raise awareness of the societal importance of research, scientific publication and dissemination of information.

Years of service medals award long-term work
With the years of service medal, a scientific society can show appreciation for a person who has worked for the society and the scientific community for a long time. Societies can apply for medals from TSV.
